The Northwood Plume Stakes is a mares only sprint race over 1200 metres that takes place on the first day of the three-day Caulfield spring racing carnival. It's typically a tough affair for punters with many capable mares engaged, making the form a little hard to predict at times.
A race like the Gr3 How Now Stakes, held the previous month on Group 1 Underwood Stakes day, provides the ideal lead-up race to the Northwood Plume Stakes as it is run under the same conditons. Both Cool Passion (2017) and Politeness (2015) have claimed the How Now Stakes and Northwood Plume Stakes double in recent years.
Mares from this event looking to tackle longer distance events might head on to the Gr2 Tristarc Stakes the following week at the same track on Group 1 Caulfield Cup day.
