WA Guineas
The WA Guineas is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds held annually at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia during the Perth summer racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres under set weight conditions and worth $500,000 in prize money. The 2019 WA Guineas was won by War Saint from Kay Cee with Red Can Man third.
Taking place on Perth Racing's feature race day of the year, the WA Guineas is held alongside the Group 1 Railway Stakes & Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes.

The WA Guineas is the first group race of the summer carnival that is open to both make & female three-year-olds and generally attracts the better 3yo gallopers going around locally. It's a good event on the WA racing calendar for three-year-olds and quite often will attract visitors from interstate who may be up to the challenge.
Peter Snowden's Academus (2012) made the trip from Melbourne to win this race and any three-year-olds contesting this event may go on to a race like the Listed Lee Steere Classic the following month at the same track. The Lee Steere Classic is a similar race for three-year-olds but over 1400m rather than 1600m.
Interestingly enough, brilliant filly Arcadia Queen (2018) and talented galloper Ihtsahymn (2013) both went on to win the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at their next start following victory in this event.
The listed Fairetha Stakes, held two weeks earlier at the same track, is generally the best guide to the WA Guineas and Vain Crusader (2006) was the last three-year-old to win the Fairetha Stakes and WA Guineas double.
Arcadia Queen (2018) captured the Gr3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes over 1600m at Ascot before scoring a comfortable victory in this event for the Grant & Alana Williams stable.
Recent WA Guineas winners include Perfect Jewel (2017) and Variation (2016).
