Kingston Town Classic
The Kingston Town Classic is a Group 1 weight-for-age race that takes place each December at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia during the Perth summer racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1800 metres and worth $1,000,000 in prize money. The 2019 Kingston Town Classic was won by Kay Cee from Gailo Chop with Best Of Days third.
Held two weeks after the Group 1 Railway Stakes and one week following the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, the Kingston Town Classic is the feature middle distance event of the Perth summer carnival. It's also the last Group 1 race of the year and held alongside the Listed Lee Steere Classic for three-year-olds.

The Kingston Town Classic is the third Group 1 event of the Perth summer racing carnival and attracts quality gallopers from interstate who match it with the locals to create plenty of interest locally.
Horses who tackle this event may come via the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes, Gr2 WA Guineas or the Group 1 Railway Stakes on their way to this race and the field generally attracts very well credentialled gallopers to make it a well fought out affair. Ihtsahymn (2013) was the last three-year-old to take out the WA Guineas & Kingston Town Classic double.
Mr Moet (2nd in 2012) and Luckygray (2012) ran first & second in the Railway Stakes before again running the quinella in this race, with Luckygray reversing the result over the 1800m trip of this event. Smart galloper Snipers Bullet (2009) is the last galloper to win the Railway Stakes & Kingston Town Classic double.
A good horse's race, Kingston Town Classic winners are quite often well above average, and may continue on to the Gr2 CB Cox Stakes at weight-for-age, which is a natural progression in distance. In recent years, Pounamu (2017), Ihtsahymn (2013) both snared the Kingston Town Classic and CB Cox Stakes double while Galaxy Star (2018), Delicacy (2nd in 2015) and Elite Belle (3rd in 2014) went on to win the CB Cox Stakes after placing in this race.
Arcadia Queen (2018) took out the Gr2 WA Guineas over 1600m at Ascot before trouncing her rivals in this event for the Grant & Alana Williams stable.
Recent Kingston Town Classic winners include Pounami (2017) and Stratum Star (2016).
