Sydney Stakes
The Sydney Stakes is a Group 3 weight-for-age race held each October at Randwick racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and worth $500,000 in prize money. The 2019 Sydney Stakes was won by Deprive from Champagne Cuddles with Brutal third.
Formally known as the 'City Tattersalls Lightning', the race was upgraded from Listed to Group 3 status in 2017 and takes place on the same day as the Group 3 Craven Plate.

The Sydney Stakes attracts good quality sprinters on their way to bigger and better things during the spring racing carnival. It takes place one week after the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Radnwick.
Earlier Randwick sprint events such as the Group 3 Concorde Stakes or Group 2 The Shorts are ideal lead up races to the Sydney Stakes.
Deprive (2019) finished seventh in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield in Melbourne before heading north to Sydney to win this event in narrow style for the James Cummings stable.
Recent Sydney Stakes winners include Pierata (2018) and In Her Time (2017).
