Taking place on the same day as the Group 1 George Main Stakes, after previously being held on the final day of the spring carnival, The Shorts is one of a number of feature races on a great day of racing at Randwick.

The Shorts is a good sprint event over Group 2 metres that typically attracts more than handy sprinters most of the time and tends to be won by an above average galloper rather than an exceptional one.
Fit, in-form gallopers who have been racing well in similar type sprint events around 1100m or 1200m are suited here. A race like the Gr3 Concorde Stakes earlier in the month at the same track provides the ideal lead-up race.
Classy sprinter Ball Of Muscle (2018) won the Gr3 The Heath 1100 over 1100m at Caulfield in Melbourne before heading back to Sydney to enjoy success in this race for the Joe Pride stable.
Pierata (2019) finished runner-up in the Concorde Stakes over 1000m at Randwick before proving too classy in this event for Warwick Farm trainer Greg Hickman.
