Flight Stakes
The Flight Stakes is a Group 1 set weights race for three-year-old fillies held at Randwick racecourse during the Sydney spring racing carnival each year in October. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres and worth $500,000 in prize money. The 2020 Flight Stakes was won by Montefilia from Hungry Heart with Vangelic third.
Taking place on Epsom Handicap Day, the Flight Stakes is held alongside three other quality Group 1 races which are the Epsom Handicap, The Metropolitan and the Spring Champion Stakes.

The Flight Stakes is the only Group 1 race for 3yo fillies held during the Sydney spring carnival and always attracts classy young females looking for elite race glory. The Gr2 Furious Stakes or Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes are traditional guides to this race, especially the latter, where winners or placegetters provide a huge percentage of Flight Stakes winners.
In recent times, Funstar (2019), Alisee (2017), First Seal (2014), Guelph (2013), Streama (2011), More Joyous (2009), Samantha Miss (2008), Cheeky Choice (2006), Ha Ha (2001) and Unworldy (2000) all captured the Tea Rose Stakes & Flight Stakes double, while Fashions Afield (2005) and Unearthly (2003) both ran placings in the Tea Rose Stakes before winning this race.
A number of fillies have won ran placings in both the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes and the Tea Rose form holds up extremely well for this race.
Streama (2011), Samantha Miss (2008), Unworldly (2000), Danglissa (1999), Sunline (1998) all managed to win the Furious Stakes - Tea Rose Stakes - Flight Stakes treble while Samantha Miss (2008) and Angst (1993) are the only two gallopers to win the Princess Series of races - the Silver Shadow Stakes, Furious Stakes, Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.
Some top fillies have been successful in this event and none better than the mighty Sunline (1998). Other good winners include More Joyous (2009), Samantha Miss (2008), Assertive Lass (1996), Angst (1993), Triscay (1990), Research (1988) and Bounding Away (1986).
Funstar (2019) won the Tea Rose Stakes over 1400m at Randwick before demolishing a small field of rivals in this event for the Chris Waller stable.
Recent Flight Stakes winners include Oohood (2018) and Alizee (2017).
