Elevated to Group 3 status for the 2013/2014 racing season, the NE Manion Cup takes place on the same day as the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.

The NE Manion Cup is a distance event for 3yo & upwards gallopers that usually sees a field of predominatly local staying types who tend to run around in similar tpye races that are a step below the better class staying races of the Sydney autumn racing carnival.
Fit, in-form stayers or improving types who get in under the handicapper's guard are the ones to keep an eye out for in this event, and a race like the Group 3 Sky High Stakes provides the ideal lead up race. Julienas (2013) was the most recent galloper to claim the Sky High Stakes & NE Manion Cup double.
Stayer's options after this event include the Group 2 Chairman's Handicap over 2600m or the Group 1 Sydney Cup over 3200m, both races taking place at Randwick. Libran (2016) and The Offer (2014) both managed to snare the Chairman's Handicap after winning this race, while Gallante (3rd in 2016) went on to win the Sydney Cup.
Midterm (2019) ran third in the Listed Vic Cup over 2000m at Caulfield in Melbourne before travelling to Sydney to win this event in easy fashion for the Mt Macedon stable of Liam Howley.
