The Grand Prix Stakes is a Group 3 race three-year-old race that takes place in December at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 2200 metres under set weight conditions and worth $250,000 in prize money. The 2019 Grand Prix Stakes was won by Chains Of Honour (Dec) from Mission Phoenix with Mosshiki third.
In 2019 the Brisbane Racing Club made changes to the Brisbane summer racing carnival featuring a new $250,000 race at Eagle Farm named 'The Gateway', for four-year-olds over 1400 metres. The Gateway winner receives a ballot-free exemption into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in June.
Following the changes, the Grand Prix Stakes moved to its new summer home in December to become the final of the 3YO Stayers’ Series, along with a prize money increase from $150,000 to $250,000.
This race was formerly held during the Brisbane winter racing carnival in May and held twice during the 2019-2020 racing season, in both May & December.

The Grand Prix Stakes was first run in 1974 and is the ideal lead up race for three-year-olds planning to contest the Queensland Derby over 2400m later in the carnival at Eagle Farm racecourse. The set weight & penalty conditions of this race favours the better horses entered for the event.
The most recent Grand Prix Stakes & Queensland Derby double winners have been Hawkspur (2013), Brambles (2012), Ice Chariot (2006) & Half Hennessy (2003), and this race generally attracts handy gallopers rather then the elite. Kutchinsky (2010) finished runner-up in the Queensland Derby after winning the Grand Prix Stakes.
Of late, the Gr3 Rough Habit Plate has been a pivotal guide to this race with both Mackintosh (2016), Hawkspur (2013) and Brambles (2012) all taking out the Rough Habit Plate & Grand Prix Stakes double, with both Hawkspur and Brambles going on to win the Queensland Derby at their next start.
Chains Of Honour (2019 Dec) took out a CL2 race over 1800m at Hawkesbury in New South Wales before heading noth to Queensland to win this event in comfortable fashion for the Gerald Ryan stable.
