The WA Sires Produce Stakes is a set weights event for two-year-olds held during the Perth autumn carnival at Ascot and the winner is more often than not just a handy galloper, rather than a topliner, as most of the best two-year-olds will be in Sydney during the autumn for the prestigious Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes or Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes.
The WA Sires Produce Stakes will most likely attract young gallopers who contested the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate the previous month over 1200m at the same track. The extra 200m of the Sires is the logical next step for Perth two-year-olds during the autumn.
Whispering Brook (2016), Luke's Luck (2012), Motion Pictures (2010), Brava Fortune (2008) and Roman Time (2007) have all won the Karrakatta Plate & Sires Produce Stakes double in recent times, while a number of horses have placed in both races over the past few years. The Karrakatta Plate is well worth keeping an eye on when looking for the likely contenders in this race.
Tinsnip (2019) finished runner-up in the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate over 1200m at Ascot before pulling out all stops to win this event in stylish fashion for the Adam Durant stable.
