Premiere Stakes
The Premiere Stakes is a Group 2 weight-for-age race held each year in October at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and worth $500,000 in prize money. The 2020 Premiere Stakes was won by Libertini from Classique Legend with Deprive third.
Typically held in early August over the years, the Premiere Stakes was moved to the same day as the Group 1 Epsom Handicap in early October for the 2011/2012 racing season, making for a huge day of thorughbred group racing action, including four Group 1 races.

The Premiere Stakes is a more than handy sprint race that generally attracts very capable types and the level weights playing field favours the classier types. Those horses who previously contested similar weight-for-age races like the Gr3 Missile Stakes or Gr2 Warwick Stakes at Randwick are well suited to this event.
Some talented gallopers have saluted in the Premiere Stakes including brilliant mare Hot Danish (2010), Triple Honour (2008), Spark of Life (2004), Mr Innocent (1999-2000) & Joanne (1991-92) and it's a race that generally assembles above average sprinters.
Smart galloper Dystopia (2nd in 2013) travelled to Flemington in November to win the Gr3 Begonia Belle Stakes during the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Brutal (2019) resumed from a spell in stylish fashion to score a strong on pace victory in this event for the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes stable.
