James HB Carr Stakes
The James HB Carr Stakes is a Group 3 race for three-year-old Fillies that takes place in April each year at Randwick racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres under set weight & penalty conditions and offers $150,000 in prize money. The 2020 James HB Carr Stakes was taken out by Rubisaki from Subpoenaed with St Covet's Spirit third.
Formerly a listed event, the James HB Carr Stakes was elevated to Group 3 status for the 2013/2104 racing season and is held on the final day of the Sydney autumn racing carnival alongside the Group 1 All Aged Stakes and Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes.

The James HB Carr Stakes is a race for fillies only and the set weights & penalty conditions gives the better performed three-year-olds an advantage over their rivals.
Most of the time the winner of this race will simply be an above average galloper who will hold her own in similar type races without rising to any great heights, although now and then a classy type will come along and prove much too good on the day.
Earlier three-year-old fillies races during the carnival like the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes provide a good lead up race to this event. Smart mare Red Tracer (2011) was the last galloper to take out the PJ Bell Stakes & James HB Carr Stakes double, while Catkins (2nd in 2013) won the PJ Bell Stakes before finishing second here.
Laburnum (2019) finished unplaced in the PJ Bell Stakes over 1200m at Randwick before scoring a stylish on pace victory in this event for the James Cummings stable.
