Strickland Stakes
The Strickland Stakes is a Group 3 weight-for-age race held annually at Belmont racecourse in Perth, Western Australia. The race is run over a distance of 2000 metres and worth $125,000 in prize money. The 2020 Strickland Stakes was won by Material Man from Perfect Jewel with The Velvet King third.
The race was moved to Belmont racecourse in July during the 2010/2011 racing season and the race distance also rose from 1800 metres to 2000 metres. It's one of four group races held during the Perth winter racing carnival in Perth, including the Gr 3 Roma Cup and Gr3 Belmont Stakes.

The Strickland Stakes is a weight-for-age race over the middle distance of 2000m and is one of the well regarded feature races in Perth. The level weights playing field lends itself to the better class performers and those horses with superior earnings and records are generally the ones to beat.
Gallopers who contested the Gr3 Hyperion Stakes under the same weight-for-age conditions over 1600m in June are likely to go on and tackle this event. Material Man (2018), Scales Of Justice (2017) and Fuchsia Bandana (2015) are the most recent gallopers to win the Hyperion Stakes and Strickland Stakes double.
Classy gallopers Marasco (2009-10) & Tarzi (2nd in 2009-10) finished first and second in the Strickland Stakes for two years in a row after running the quinella in the Hyperion Stakes beforehand. Tarzi defeated Marasco in the 2009 Hyperion Stakes before Marasco reversed the result the following year on his way to back to back Strickland Stakes victories. Multiple horses have managed to place in both races with Zarantz (2nd in 2016-2017), Ranger (2nd in 2014) and Rosie Rocket (3rd in 2012) the most recent.
Smart galloper Mr Moet (2012) went on to win the Group 1 Raiway Stakes the following spring after taking out this event and Rosie Rocket (3rd in 2012) ran third in the same race.
Galaxy Star (2019) finised runner-up to Gatting in the Hyperion Stakes over 1600m at Belmont prior to winning this race in narrow style for the Grant & Alana Williams stable.
Recent Strickland Stakes winners include Scales Of Justice (2017) and Ihtsahymn (2016).
