The Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is a race for two-year-old fillies that is run down the Flemington 'Straight Six' 1200m course which is a straight track with no turns involved and suits some horses more than others. Some two-year-olds can find the long straight a bit challenging if it is their first attempt at the course and any 2yo with experience down the straight has a decided advantage.
Fillies may tackle this race after competing in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in February and the winner is typically just a handy filly who will most likely go on to be more than competitive in similar type races against her own age.
Flit (2019 DH), trained by James Cummings, and Ready Set Sail (2019 DH), trained by Mick Price, finished third and fourth respectively in 2YO maiden races at both Bendigo (1100m) and Sale (1212m) before dead-heating in this event.
