|Date:||Saturday 11th May 2019|
|Track:||Morphettville racecourse, Adelaide|
|Race Type:||2yo - Set Weights|
|2019 Winner:||She Shao Fly|
The Sires Produce Stakes is the first group race held for two-year-olds over a distance longer than 1200m during the Adelaide autumn carnival and the Gr3 SA Breeders Stakes, held the previous month at the same track, provides the ideal lead up race to this event. Tequila Time (2018) is the last galloper to capture the SA Breeders Stakes and SA Sires Produce Stakes double. Both The Grey Flash (2015) and Go Indy Go (2014) finished runner-up in the SA Breeders Stakes before winning the Sires Produce Stakes.
The 1400m distance of the Sires suits 2yo gallopers looking for more ground and its worth noting that Rebel Raider (2008) won this race as a two-year-old before going on to win the Gr1 AAMI Victoria Derby over 2500m the following spring as a three-year-old.
Two-year-olds contesting this race may continue on to the Gr2 National Stakes on Goodwood Day in May. Triple Asset (4th in 2011) managed to win The Jansz during the carnival, while Win For Wilson (2nd in 2011) finished runner-up in both races.
In recent times Go Indy Go (2014) travelled to Sydney to win the ATC Champagne Stakes during the Sydney autumn racing carnival, while Silent Surround (2009) went on to run third in the Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes and then second in the Gr2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne spring racing carnival.
She Shao Fly (2019) ran third in the Breeders Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville before stepping up to group success in this event for the Tony McEvoy stable. The win provided popular racehorse syndicators, Bennett Racing, with their first group race victory.
Recent SA Sires Produce Stakes winners include Tequila Time (2018) and Time Awaits (2017).
