Canonbury Stakes
The Canonbury Stakes is a Group 3 race for two-year-old colts & geldings held in late January or early February at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1100 metres under set weight conditions and worth $150,000 in prize money. The 2020 Canonbury Stakes was won by Prague from Global Quest with Return With Honour third.
Taking place on the same day as the Group 2 Expressway Stakes, the Canonbury Stakes was upgraded from listed to Group 3 status for the 2014/2015 racing season.

The Canonbury Stakes is the first group race of the Sydney autumn racing carnival for 2yo colts & geldings. It takes place on the same day as the Group 3 Widden Stakes for fillies, which is the female equivalent of this race.
Capable sprinters appreciate the 1100m trip of this event and it provides the ideal lead-up event to upcoming two-year-old races like the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill or the Group 2 Skyline Stakes at Warwick Farm.
Those classier gallopers engaged often follow the traditional two-year-old path via the Group 2 Reisling Stakes or Group 2 Todman Stakes on their way to the $1,000,000 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill in March. Vancouver (2015) was the last two-year-old to win the Canonbury Stakes & Golden Slipper Stakes double.
Prague (2020) took out a 2YO Maiden race over 1200m at Canterbury before winning this event in quality style for the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable.
